Lots to say...not much knitting!

I'll get it out the way before I start on the real stuff I want to talk about. I worked on my shrug when I got back from my trip, but it's only a meager 10 inches long. So now there's only 29 inches to go before I do the little ruffle at the other end. It's slow going so I'm going to have to cast on for something else tonight, I just don't know what.

And now on to the TRIP! My husband and I went to Niagara Falls, Canada. I had a lot of fun...he had a little bit of fun (when he went fishing!). We compromised and decided not to stay in a hotel and camp out (I think about Memorial Day, I'm hooked on camping) at Riverside Park Motel & Campground. It was a great place...clean and pretty quiet. We're glad we arrived on a Tuesday and were leaving Saturday because by Friday the place was filling up with people.

Here are some photos:

Obviously this is me and not my husband!

We bought ourselves an Adventure Pass (Niagara parks), which gave us entry to Journey Behind the Falls, Maid of the Mist (my favorite), the Butterfly Conservatory, and the White Water Walk (which we didn't end up doing). Now, everything except the conservatory meant we got wet - very wet!

First came the Journey Behind the Falls. You go in and they give you a big yellow poncho (read: garbage bag) to keep your clothes from getting wet. You go down an elevator and you can walk down to these little portals that actually put you behind the rushing water of the falls. The really fun part though is when you go onto the observation deck.

Me, getting a little blown away and wet. The mist and wind was crazy!

After that bit of fun we went to the Maid of the Mist. You are given a blue poncho (again, read: garbage bag) and put on a boat to be taken right up close to the Horseshoe Falls.

The boat: Maid of the Mist (we weren't on this one at the time, I took the photo so I could show people where we went.)

There is supposed to be a photo of me on the boat modeling my lovely blue poncho, but the darn thing isn't working right and keeps coming up tiny, no matter what I do. I'll work on it later.

Double gorgeous!

So I had a great time. I didn't take any knitting with me because the last time I went camping everything started to smell like smoke and I didn't want that to happen to my knitting. Turns out we didn't need to make a fire all that often since the weather was great to us.

Shrug Progress

Since the last time I posted a photo of my shrug it wasn't very big, and here it is now - still doesn't seem to be moving that fast. It's only about 7 inches long, that means I've still got 32 inches to go. The ribbing makes it slow going, but I think it's looking good:

I have my eye on starting another IK shrug, the Minimalist Ribbon Shrug. I even found some yummy yarn (below) that would work for the pattern:

Isn't it yummy? Who can resist colors like Jellybean, Spring Meadow and Kaleidoscope!

Bead-It 2

I got some great mail today. I got my stitch markers from Cara at Dorky Best Friend. Take a look at what she sent me:

Along with the stitch markers, she sent me some cool writing paper - which does always come in handy for me.

And here is a close up of the stitch markers. Check out the cute little yarn charm:

Finally, some knitting content. I finally got restarted on my IK shrug for the Shrug-A-Long, and here is where I'm at:

I want to get it finished by next week because we're heading up to Niagara Falls. We're actually going to be camping, but I figure we can go out for a nice dinner sometime and I have a cute blue dress this will go with.

I found a nice surprise in my mailbox the other day...stitch markers from Cara, the organizer of Bead-It 1 & 2. See, for whatever reason, I didn't receive my stitch markers from my first bead-it pal (so if you're out there and you sent them, please know I just didn't get them)...and she sent me some to make up for it. If you've read my previous blogs you'll also see that Amy from Amyville sent me some of her wonderful stitch markers too...so I got lucky!

Here are the wonderful stitch markers from Cara:

I signed up for Bead-It 2 even though the first one didn't go so great for me. But I'm not upset about it. I figure that whoever my pal was had some unexpected issues in life and I'm not one to bitch someone out without knowing the facts. And I'm not the kind of person to let one small mishap stop me from enjoying myself with other swaps and stuff. So I have my stitch markers ready to send out for Bead-It 2 and I'm still getting my act together for my SP5 pal.

SP5 surprise

Today was the best day to receive a cute little card from my secret pal. I had a dentist appointment, so of course I was a little achy when I got home and checked the mail...and there it was! It's amazing how much of a pick-me-up it was. So THANKS secret pal.

I cast on again for my IK ribbed shrug that I had to frog a while back (all my husband's fault, by the way!). We're planning a trip to Niagara Falls in a couple of weeks and I have a blue dress that I want to wear it with, and I think it will be really cute.

Now I have to get crackin' on my stitch markers for my bead-it 2 pal.

Yarn, wonderful yarn!

Here is the pic of my Knitpicks order. I can't wait to get working with some of this yarn:

I stumbled across Unky Moods, which is where I got the little icon that says I'm "short" today. Unfortunately, I'll be short for the rest of my life - I barely hit five foot two. It's free to sign up and so cute. I actually found it by following the icon on Whimsy's blog.

I went to the dentist yesterday...three fillings and a cleaning later I emerged with a numb mouth and sore teeth. So when I get home from work this afternoon I'm going to knit, knit, and knit. I haven't been doing much lately because of work and other stuff and I really want to get going. I might cast on for my clapotis. Everything on tv is probably reruns so I won't have to worry about missing anything.

I got my Bead-It 2 pal info so I'm hitting the shops today for some beads. I'm not sure what I'm going to get. I also got my SP5 info and also my secret pal has contacted me a couple of times. This is going to be so much fun. I love to send gifts to people!
