Thwarted!

Here's the story: I went to a local Walmart on the way to work yesterday to get the newest Interweave Knits mag. Now, I know not all Walmart's have bad service etc, actually I love Walmart. When I lived in Florida I did a lot of my shopping at the local Super Walmart. BUT THIS Walmart I went to was, and has been before, bad. Again, I was on my way to work and had a little time to spare, not 10-20 minutes though.

It seems that every time I go in there they only have 3-4 registers open and the lines are crazy. So they tell people with only a few items (that would be me yesterday; my IK and a Mother's Day card) to go to the Customer Service desk. I go over there and there are 3 workers, a line of about 3 people. I think "no problem," I'll be out of here in no time. I was very wrong! Two of the workers are working on ONE customer. The other worker walks away and leaves.

So, getting frustrated, I decide to leave. I just drop my stuff down and walk out. No IK for now. I was going to hit AC Moore where I know they have it, but time was limited. I only had time to get to Michaels (which had the old IK, but not the new one) to get my yarn for my Shrug-A-Long.

I think next time I'm in that Walmart, I'm going to look for the suggestion box. Yeah, maybe they don't care and won't bother to read the comments, but it makes me feel like I've at least done something other than complaining.

I did it!

I finished my second Kyoto sleeve. Now I'm blocking them, and will do the rest of the blocking in the next couple of days. I was thinking of picking up the stitches for the sash, but I've decided to go ahead and just knit it then seam everything together. This Kyoto sweater will be my FIRST (yes, first!) completely finished piece, other than some scarves etc. I have been too scared to finish up any of the other projects I had going.

I'm going to hit the craft store before going to work this evening. I've joined a Shrug-A-Long so I need to get the yarn for that. I'm going to make the Ribbed Shrug from the new IK:

I was going to use some Endless Summer Collection Sonata that I got at Elann, but I worked up a swatch last night and didn't like the way it was looking. So I'm going to get the yarn called for in the pattern: Patons Katrina.

My Knitting Goal for the Day...

to finish my second Kyoto sleeve! Yes, it may be a lofty goal, but I think it can be done. I have about 30 rows to go before it reaches the required length. So as long as I don't have to go to work tonight, and I don't get side-tracked (easily done), I can get this done. Wish me luck!

Books, books, books...

So I signed up for the Crafter's Choice bookclub. It was kind of difficult to find 4 books I wanted from their $1 intro price selections, but I ended up getting some good books. Of course I got Last Minute Knitted Gifts; it's backordered though so it didn't come in the mail with the others. The books I did get were:

In knitting progress news: I got some more yarn to finish my mum's scarf. I'm hoping I can get it done tonight. It knits up quickly, so we'll see how I go. I also got quite a few rows done on my second Kyoto sleeve. I think I'm going to block and put it together, then pick up stitches to attach the sash. I got this idea from another knitster on the Knitty.com boards.

And finally - today is Anzac Day in Australia. So as my tribute to the fallen soldiers of Gallipoli, I've put this little picture on my blog.

Mother's Day Gift

Okay, so the Rummy Scarf I was planning on knitting for my mum has been shelved. I wasn't warming to the colors I was using so I decided to go with something else. I bought a couple of balls of Lion Brand's Landscape in Rose Garden (#271) and am using the pattern on the label. Well...I am sort of using the pattern on the label for a scarf, but I'm also doing a little bit of free form. The pattern calls for 6 rows of garter alternated with 6 rows of stockinette stitch. I decided to do this, but then do stockinetter for larger chunks. I don't know if this is the reason why two balls of yarn (what the pattern called for) is not going to make a full scarf. Here are some pics of my progress:

I think it's coming along nicely, and I think it is "happy" enough to cheer up anyone in winter time...even my mum.

Back to Knitting

Well I was right about not having as much time for knitting once I started work. Once I get home sometimes I'm pretty tired and just can't bring myself to pick up the needles. That is going to change though - I want to get some of my projects worked up. I've only done a few rows on my second Kyoto sleeve. Here it is:

I really like the blue trim with the green. I just hope I have enough of the blue yarn for the sash. When I placed my Elann order I didn't plan on using the blue for the ends of the sleeves. Here's what I got in that order:

I actually planned on making two Kyotos, one with the green & blue, and the other with the pink and Tahki Cotton Colori for the sash. Now, the pink looks to be earmarked for another project (more later).

Can't believe it!

I can't believe it's been so long since I've updated this blog. I guess nothing much was going on, knitting wise anyway. I started my new job last week (at The Disney Store) so I've been kind of tired by the time I get home. I have been doing a little knitting - a scarf for my mum. It get colds where she lives in Albany, Western Australia, so I figured she could use it. It's a little slow going right now and I don't know if I will get it done in time for Mother's Day.

I have to put Hello back up so I can post photos to my blog. My DH freaked out that I dare download anything onto the laptop, so I told him to take it off for the time being and then put it back on HIMSELF! I don't know how that will make a difference, but I just didn't want the hassle.

The poncho I was making for my friend's little girl stalled. I really wanted to make her something for her birthday, but the color of the yarn I got started to get to me and I didn't really like it, which is a bummer since I took forever to pick it out. I will finish it though and then decide what to do with it.

Yeah, it's the weekend!

Well I'm finally over my cold...mostly. The annoying cough that was keeping me up at night has pretty much gone, which is nice. Sleep is nice! I'm back to my normal sleeping pattern, even though I'm still staying up a little later due to the one hour time change.

On the knitting front, things have been pretty quiet. I've been doing a little bit, but since I was sick, it had dropped off a little bit. I'm back to working on my Kyoto. I just started the second sleeve, which is coming along nicely. All that is left after this is the sash and collar, and finishing of course!

I have been trying to catch up on some reading, which I had let slip since taking up knitting. I am reading "A Map of the World" and have just started a book about women being admitted to VMI. I'm going to be doing a lot of reading and a lot less knitting come fall. I found out the other day that I got accepted to the University of Mary Washington in nearby Fredericksburg (www.umw.edu).

New Look

I decided to change the template of my blog. I guess I was just getting tired of the other one I had picked out. Now, I realise I have picked the same template that appears for another blog I have in my fave blog list (Knot Again), but oh well. Each blog is different and special in their own way.

I'm still trying to get over my cold and haven't been sleeping well - but the end in near. I'm pretty sure it's just about over and done with. The time change for daylight savings has also put me off a bit. Sure, it's only an hour ahead, and yet for some reason these small time changes mess me up, while I can fly to Australia and move forward a whole day and be perfectly fine!

On the knitting front: I am back to not being able to post photos for a bit until my DH can put the Hello program back on my computer, so you'll just have to take my word for it that I'm almost done with one sleeve of my Kyoto. I'm going to try and do quite a bit of knitting next week since I start work the week after next.

April Fools

I survived April Fools Day without incident. I'm guessing this is because I live too far away from the many joksters in my family.

I got back on track with my Kyoto sweater from Knitty.com last night. I finally decided on regular seed stitch for the sleeve edging, collar and sash. Although I figure it's going to be tedious doing the sash because of the amount of stitchs (about 180, I think). But I'm just glad to be happy with it. I also did the seed stitching on the sleeve in the same color I'm using for the sash. I will post a picture soon.

As for the poncho I mentioned in my last post - I've finished one of the rectangular panels. And I've decided this yarn (Lion Brand boucle) is a bugger to knit with. I am, however, sticking with it because this is a birthday present for someone.

I've spent a lot of time sleeping the last few days. I've caught a bit of a cold from my darling hubby and I guess my body is fighting it hard because man, have I been tired. And when I'm sick I have weird eating habits. For dinner I had pancakes. YES, pancakes! I eat my pancakes (usually, although I have been known to eat them with syrup) with lemon juice and sugar on top. It's a nice combination of sweet and sour.

Anyway, I'm off to do some more knitting before I have to curl up in bed again.
